Playing with Collage

Well, thanks to all you fabulous dancers the snow that was promised
never ever came. Only a little rain and I actually welcomed it.
Your dancing feet worked like magic! he he he he! Thanks family.
This is a collage test piece that I am working on for a possible
project. I will be doing a collage style book in a couple
weeks and I just needed to get my feet wet. All my books
have been digital up until now. I adore being able to work
digitally and traditionally as an illustrator, but collage will always be
my first love.
It's fresh and free and organic. I plan to take this week off
from working on projects and do some free collage work.
I'll let you know how it all comes out. Have a great week family!

OMG.....it's as good, if not better than--in a different way, all your other work!
I absolutely LOVE collage! It has so many possibilities; two people can work with the same things and have totally different pieces of art.
You GO GIRL!!!!♥♥♥

XXOO!!
Anne.....with snow melting.....YAY!

Ooooh Ms. Vee, I am glad the snow did not come. My thighs are sore from dancing.

At first I thought your post said "Paying with College" and I thought to myself "Huh!?" Whatever does she mean?

Glued going Ms. Vee!

It is very glued work indeed.

Congrats on dancing away that snow! ;)

Love this illustration, Vanessa! The colors are brilliant and I love the collage look—as well as the look on her Mom's face! :D

This is lovely Vanessa, I love collage and your pieces are wonderful and so full of personality! I'm glad you were spared more snow! Hope the picture of Johnny Depp helped to melt what was left of it too ;). Thanks for all your supportive and kind comments. I appreciate it so much. You are a sweetheart.

Oh my goodness, you just keep it coming. LOOK at this deliciousness. The stance, those expressions, that gorgeous textured background. And I LOVE the collage pieces. So cool how you added perspective to them. Do I see a little bit of Alice in Wonderland? You are some kind of wonderful, girl!!! You should be declared a national treasure!

This is a fabulous style. I love the textured collage background set against the cleaner style characters, it really makes them pop!

Vanessa , this is wonderful. I am certainly going to want to see what comes next.

I love working with various media. I am mostly a pixel-pusher-painter, but love clay, paint, and wood and cutouts that I can manipulate.

Your collages will be vibrant!

As for the snow... we have a ton left over, need any?

Love the rich and textured background. And that vintage look on the collage.

Oh that Bella is a show-off! She has to say her hips are lethal weapon just after I say mine are sore. Show-off. I challenge her to a dancing contest!!!

hello again,

I just need some advice from you! I have been Illustrating for about a year and I found out some things as far as illustration fees, and the last project that I worked one which was my first project it turned out that I was really short changed doing those illustrations.

I have a new project coming up and I have been trying to figure out a fair fee to charge the author. I was told that I whould estimate how many hours it would take me to do one page and multiply that by what I would charge per hour! so I figured it would take me about 7 hours to illustrate on page if not using oil paints. I was thinking $25 X 7hours = $150 per page

$150 X 32pages = $4800
plus $300 for cover page
total = $5100

This will be her first time publishing a children book, but she has a series of books that she will have me illustrate and that will be published! Do you think that price is too much?

Please take a look at my last post of my Pooky character colored, this is how I am going to color her pages with a lot of detail. Her book will be 10 X 8 in size. Do you think this price is fair or a little too much? or am I still short changing.

Please respond to this on my blog. I hope to hear from you soon!

I absolutely ADORE your work! It's so rich and beautiful and juicy. I found you by way of the fantastic Derrick Barnes, a fellow author friend. My girls and I are huge fans of Ruby and the Booker Boys, and we appreciate how you brought her to life in illustration. So glad I can see more of your amazing work!
