Collage My First Love

Of all the media that I work with collage, I have to say,
is the one the challenges me and stretches me as an
artist and illustrator. I am constantly blown away
with unlimited materials that can be found and
reused to create wonderful and whimsical art.
I am always on the hunt and prowl spying
for special papers and library book sales and such to
find things to work on and with. This piece was done
on heavy watercolor paper and then collaged with dictionary
and old ledger papers as well as novel pages. I then
painted with gouache, watercolor and crayons and
let the back ground come through. It was fun and next time
I would like to try something bigger. Hope that this
will inspire you try it for yourself. Let me know how it turns
out!!!
Have a great week!

I'll definitely have to try that out :)

Beautiful, Ms.Vee but the process is painstaking and therefore it explains how much you love the medium. The outcome is all worth the effort. I bet it is shiny too? As for reading the phrase "first love", I thought I would find a handsome, strapping man, glued all over the post! Have a lovely week, sweet!

I love it Vanessa! And I love collage for all the reasons you listed plus many more---I find a voice through it that I find nowhere else. My collection of old papers has grown in a shameful manner and I cannot wait to finish my current work to return to it....collage can be, well, anything that you dream!

XXOO~~♥

Gwendoulash, glad you could stop by. Hope that my voyage hasn't made you sea sick he he he he.

Breignier, So happy to hear that you will try this project out. I would love to see what you come up with! Bet it's going to fabulous!

Ces, I haven't put the shine on it yet cause it really is hard to take a picture of. You get that flash back thingee that I hate so much As for first love, Ray got that spot, but he won't stay still long enough to tape him up. I guess he is afraid of me pulling the tape off his top lip and legs. He's such a baby. Now hold still! he he he he!

Anne, I would love to come over and check out stash of papers. I bet the are a real treat. You are so right about collage. It can be anything you want it to be.

Amazing work Vanessa...very inspiring!!! I really want to start using watercolors and gouache to get away from the computer sometimes. Last week I was playing around with Prismacolor markers and they are wonderful. I need to practice practice practice to get better at using these mediums.

This is soooo cute, I love mixed media pieces, you would probably be in heaven over here, I have crazy amounts of stuff stashed everywhere, too bad it is so much work pulling it all out! Any way, I love it! Have you ever done wax painting in your collages? I really love it because it can give a piece so much depth.

Ha-cha-cha-cha! Your collages reign supreme! I love papers, all kinds, and I love old books. AND I love your illustrations. So put them all together and it's the PERFECT STORM! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh, Makes me all giddy inside. Ooh, I imagine how wonderful it feels to actually rip those papers and feel their textures as you place them around, never knowing quite what you'll end up with.

Love you, Nester! Love you more than kids love summer vacation!
