Welcome Back Zoe

Well today is my daughter's first day back at school and she has
mixed feelings about the whole thing. "Will I see my old friends?
Will I like my new teacher? Will she or he like me? And by the way,
WHATS UP THESE UNIFORMS AGAIN?" The girl has been wearing
a school uniform for over 3 years now and we are still stuck
here! Her dad and I thinks she looks pretty COOL in her
burgundy and plaid. She would prefer wearing her regular
clothing. I have to say though, it's something so wonderful
about seeing a playground full of girls and boys in fabulous
uniforms. Just makes me want to stop and draw.
Zoe, Have a wonderful first day!!
Love you!
Mommy

Good luck Zoe. You will be fine! You will find a cute boy and then Mommy will get nervous. Imagine that! I think uniforms are cool but I undertsand. I wore uniforms since I was five years old. I even wore them in COLLEGE and UNIVERSITY and WORK! AAAAAAACCCCCK!

My kids are both in high school and finally liberated from uniforms. I don't know what the big deal is about uniforms. I always altered mine. Hahahah!

Good luck Miss V. I love you.

Here's to a successful school year, and take it from a gal who wore navy and white uniforms for 8 years of school, you certainly make that plaid work!!!

Good luck, young ladies and gentlemen! Such a stylish "Welcome Back!" As much as we miss our kids when they return to school in the fall, do you find yourself asking, "Is it recess (for the parents) yet?" ;o)

I'm the opposite of Zoe. I loved wearing a uniform! :D Took the guesswork out of what to wear every week day, and left my regular clothes for my weekends off.

The fact that I also attended one of the premiere schools for girls in the city also helped a lot. The outfit of prestige, baby!

I love the illustration Vanessa as it reminds me of the uniforms we wore at St. Vincent DePaul, when we lived in San Francisco. Bought them at the most marvelous store, "City Of Paris", which sadly is gone, but was a world of wonder in and of itself.....sweet memories! ;)

Hope she had a great first day of school and forgot about the uniform being on her :)) I wore it one year, and think it to be practical and cute. Kids do look cute and very inspiring as you said it... it makes you want to stop and draw :) Love the drawing as any other of yours and am trying to inhale the spirit of them and make you my inspirational teacher for my first illustrations. So happy to have found your blog recently.

What a lucky girl Zoe is to have such a wonderful, talented, and loving mom! I hope Zoe has a great year, uniform and all. I'm with you, by the way--I love uniforms (but then I don't have to wear one every day). Still, your gorgeous artwork makes them look ever so fabulous!
Sending hugs, V!

Well? WELL? Did she? Did she see her old friends again? Did she like her new teacher? Did she have FUN? Did she have the most awesome first day of school ever? Inquiring minds want to know. Awwwww, I sure hope she did. If not THE best day ever, at least in the top 10. I, personally, like school uniforms. Sure they can be expensive and made out of cheap material, but they certainly are durable and you don't have to spend 20 minutes in front of the closet. That morning time is precious! And I agree with you. Something about seeing a sea of little girls all in school uniform is adorable! (High school girls in uniform are another story. Once they're out of the house, they start rolling up the waist until they have mini mini skirts!) You want to know something? Sometimes my Emma puts on her school uniform from Tokyo, just because she liked them so much.

Woooo! Okay. I think I had too much coffee.

LOVE your sassy and beautiful school girls, Über V! You can make ANY uniform look good.

I love the uniforms you drew for these characters - and I like the movement in this piece. I can just see that girl swaying to the music.
