Zoe's First Day

Well, Yall... Zoe, my beautiful and talented almost nine year old will be starting third grade
on this Wednesday coming. Yesterday she woke up with a sore throat
and now she is coughing a little. She is now in my bed. It's 5:25 am
eastern time and I have a little itch in my throat too. I've been up since
3:25am this morning check and working on her.
This child cannot afford to miss the first day of school!!!!
Well just have to play it by ear. So, she ain't really feelin' school
right now. What is wee's gone do?????
HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!

Oh no! I hope Zoe feels better! It'd be awful to miss out on the first day, when everything is new and everyone is getting settled. To be even a day late, you'd feel as though you missed out on some sort of party. I hope that both of you feel better real soon!

Really great illustration! I love your style!

Oh poor Zoe! I hope she is better now.

Beautiful illustration! I love her manner to holding the books, and I love the skirt too.

Hey Vanessa...although I'm certainly not downplaying the importance
of a good education, if Zoe has one ounce of your talent, she's gonna be okay! One little old day won't make that big a difference in the scope of life. Now that I put in my two cents worth, let me just say WOW! this illustration is absolutely gorgeous!! Even when your under the weather, you're still able to crank out a masterpiece! Hope you both feel better soon!

Good God, Girlie! What a beautiful illustration and representation of your precious one. I really hope that she feel's better very soon and doesn't miss the first day of school.

Her outfit is smashing, the skirt is brilliant. You can do this even when you're not feeling your best? I am scared of you!

Love you much, much, much, and can't wait to really get back to my drawing. Being back at a full-time job really cuts into my creative time. Dangit!

Nice illo - if she is in fact sick, I think it's better if she stays home and doesn't get the other kids sick! Though I do hope she is fine... and you too!

That's terrible! I missed the first two weeks of kindergarten because I was recovering from surgery. The other moms all made fun of my mother when she dropped me off on my first day and cried.

I hope she's feeling better. 3rd grade seems like a tough transition--We're 5 weeks in (year round) and my 3rd grader is having the daily morning stomach ache--he's not happy at school. Good luck to you both!

They sure like to get sick at the most interesting times. I really hope she is feeling better and was able to make it to school and that you got some sleep. My daughter started 1st grade almost 2 weeks ago, but so far she has been healthy. By the way your work and talent continues to amazing me. Truly a gift that you are putting to great use.

Well, I imagine if she has to carry all those books while sick, she should stay home.... if she gets better send her off, but not to spread the germs.

I'm sending healing love to both of you. Get well soon :)

Darling illo, btw.

I do hope Zoe feels better by tomorrow. Take care of yourself, as well.
Love the illustration.

gargle with salt water!! I've had an itchy sore throat for a few days as well - what a terrible feeling! Actually the gargling isn't much of a long term remedy... at least for me it isn't.

Very cute illo! Love her posture and facial expression :)

Hopefully you guys get better soon!

I love this! She's so wholesome and excited with her books! Being a librarian, I say every library should have this poster!

I hope she's feeling better! We start school on Monday, but my daughter turns 12 tomorrow, so she's having a sleepover party here tonight (hence I'm up at 1am posting on blogs.) She had several friends call at the last minute to say they couldn't come today because they are sick. I guess it only takes a couple of fall - like days to get those germs going!

Awww, Mama V, poor itty bitty Z. She would have made such a fashionable and grand entrance with her adorable little self. I hope she (and you) get rid of that nasty bug soon. Shooo SHOOO! Go on, now, GET!

I'll be missing you while you're off galavanting around Wonderland. You make sure and eat some of those magic cake, you hear? The kind that says EAT ME. Then you'll grow and grow, and you can stomp out that bug and...and... maybe if you keep growing....WORLD DOMINATION! MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Ah, what am I sayin'. You already RULE!

Love your illustration, her expression is playful, and you nailed her pose. Good luck to you and your family Vanessa.

I say that little sweetheart stays home. It is not super important in the scheme of things.
